Our home away from home And other info

Well, as we get ready for our journey to the eastern edge of Canada, it is only fitting that i give you some background for the genesis of this trip.

We were watching a programme on TVO (Ontario public television for my American friends) about Newfoundland, a well done, very descriptive hour about our youngest province.  We looked at each other and said, at the same time, we should go.  And so the idea for the east coast trip was born.  Then came the TV ads for Newfoundland and Labrador and we were hooked.  If you haven't seen them, find them on YouTube - they are well done and very enticing. Who says marketing doesn't work?

Of course we looked at all the Maritime provinces and finally decided that we would try to cover the islands in the month's time we had set aside for our trip. So Prince Edward Island, Cape Breton Island and Newfoundland will be the focus of this journey.

We are committed to a certain date for the ferry to Newfoundland and we have reservations at Memorial University in St. John's, NL.  The rest of the itinerary will be very flexible, something quite new for me.  Those of you that know me well know that I like to know when I will be where (pardon the grammatical structure but you get the picture).  We will take 3 days to drive out to PEI and 4 days  to come home from Cape Breton.

As is usual for one of our road trips, we will be camping.  Besides using our tent in the campgrounds, we will also use our minivan if the weather doesn't cooperate. I will be posting pictures to this blog or providing a link to pictures

Off to do more research on things to see and do!!
